LIFE - Affordable Art Fair
Attempting to take the elitism and financial restrictions off this activity of the pseudo-intellectual aristocrats of the upper east side, the AAF finally lets the starving artist be supported by people who should support them: the starving collector. With over 50 international galleries represented and art priced as low as 100 McChicken Sandwiches (that's 100 dollars in poor-speak) and as high as $10,000 (which isn't even as much as your art history degree, so it's still affordable), you can rub elbows with naive new collectors and elitists who find slumming it to be charming.
So it's time to roll up those poster versions of classic paintings and start decorating your apartment properly: with poster versions of up and coming artists. The fair runs from September 30th to October 3rd. With workshops in easy-to-understand colloquial language, like "Get Your Art On," to make you savvy, and tickets from $15-20 (or free if you're one of those rare art collectors under 12), you're sure to feel classy even in sneakers. Don't miss FREE admission Friday from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m, just don't expect to join the proceeding yacht party in your commoner street attire.
